Most archeological evidences state that gambling was known among the first men. The researchers revealed the dice of bones that dates back about 40,000 years. Moreover, some cave drawings also depict people throwing the dice and playing other games. The actual game with dice or craps was designed by Chinese in 2300 B.C. which later was brought to Greece. It is also known that gambling was illegal at those times, however people continued to play the dice. The ivory dice dating back around 1500 B.C. were revealed on the territory of Thebes. Dice were very popular in the Roman Empire where even children had to study to gamble throwing the small cubes.
Though, in the 14th century gambling was forbidden by King Henry VIII who found out that his soldiers used to waste time gambling.
Native Americans believed that gambling games were created by God that's why they did not consider gambling to be sin. They made dice with plum stones and marked them in black and white. Americans were among the first to roll dice to predict the future.
First official lottery was organized in 1793 in Washington. Back then, during the Revolutionary War lotteries became the perfect way to make the finance improvements and soon all the US states began to organize lotteries. In the 1830's there existed more than 420 state lotteries in the USA.
Card games were also popular in the New World and were often played at the riverboats. Some gambling venues were legal and some of them were illegal. Since then the players always tried to cheat at poker and blackjack game and when the con men were revealed they were punished. Nevertheless, more and more systems and ways to manipulate playing cards appeared.
